Beer Quirky Fact:
Beer was once consumed through straws! In ancient Mesopotamia, people used long straws to drink beer from communal pots, as the drink was often thick and filled with floating grain. And here's a kicker: the earliest known recipe for beer is over 4,000 years old, carved onto a Sumerian clay tablet. Cheers to ancient brews!

Our Beer Snippet - Learn More About Beer!

Magnesium in beer might sound surprising, but it's a key mineral that plays a role in the brewing process and in your body! Magnesium helps yeast ferment sugars into alcohol and carbon dioxide, which gives beer its fizz and alcohol content. It also affects the flavor, adding a slight bitterness.

Plus, it’s good for you—magnesium supports muscle function, heart health, and energy production. While beer isn’t a major source of magnesium (about 21 mg per 12 oz.), it’s still a fun fact to know that a refreshing brew contains this essential mineral! Just drink responsibly!

Beer of The Day! - Irish Red Ale

Irish red ale (Irish: leann dearg), often called red ale or Irish ale, is a type of pale ale made with a moderate amount of kilned malts and roasted barley, which give the beer its distinctive red hue. The alcohol content usually falls between 3.8% and 4.8% ABV, though some craft versions can reach up to 6%.

O'Hara's Irish Red Ale in a pint glass

Irish red ales have a distinct "Irish" flavor, thanks to the roasted barley also found in Irish stouts. Brewed with pale malts, sometimes caramel malts, and roasted or black malt (which gives them their signature color), these beers are dry, making them easy to drink and enjoyable year-round.

The malt takes center stage, providing flavors and aromas of grain and toast, ranging from light to almost burnt, depending on the beer’s color. While a light floral hoppiness can be present, it's not essential. Think of Irish reds as a drier, lower-hopped version of an English bitter, often with a darker hue.

Pair it with shepherd’s pie, a toasted cheese sandwich, or a lamb stew with fries. Of course, listen to Irish music while sipping on it! Cheers!
